This time last year, October 11, 2011, I was extremely pregnant. I had been having a lot of problems with my pregnancy and things were only getting worse. I was seeing my doctors 3-4 times a week, spending time in the lab multiple times a week, and was admitted to the hospital many times. I was on partial bed rest ( I was allowed to move about my house and go to work 1-2 times a week( I sat at a desk with my feet up, it wasn't strenuous)) I was so uncomfortable. Every doctor appointment over the previous 4 weeks the doctor warned me "we might not be able to wait any longer". Well, at this particular appointment (10/11/11 2:45pm) the doctor came out to the waiting room and said "I just got a call from the lab you need to go to the hospital NOW (or it could be fatal)" My doctors kept such a close eye on Owen and I my whole pregnancy, and my hospital experience was beyond incredible. We were nervous that my labour lasted so long, nervous we might have to do a C-section if conditions got worse, but things went almost perfectly smooth!
October 12, 2011, in the evening my baby boy FINALLY came. It was such an amazing experience, That is a day I will forever keep right next to my heart. The doctor had been telling me for a while that no one would be allowed in the room with me, but my mom and Daves mom snuck in, and of coarse Dave was there!
Owen is such a joy (about 99.95% of the time ;)) , We love this kid so much!! He is always jibber jabbing, giving hugs and kisses, biting, or screaming ;)
This week he threw his first tantrum, and his second, and his third.... hopefully thats all he has in him !!
He has 8 teeth and 2 pushing up his gums.
He has been walking for 3 months, crawling since he was 7mo.
He talks A LOT but only says about 3 real words.
He loves to help with the dishes!
Being outside is his favorite, he always walks me to his stroller or points to it when he wants to go for a walk.
He has been off the bottle for over a month, drinks very little formula/milk ( my wallet is dancing its so full of money!), My goal was to have him off his pacifier by 12 months but he is not ready, and neither are Dave and I!! (We need that emergency plug)
He sleeps in his room, all night (except he was just sick and it threw him off a bit but, no worries, he is almost back to the norm! yayy!)
He loves to share.
If you give him something and tell him to take it somewhere he will, I love this!!
He loves to feed himself with utensils- its silly to watch!
He is hesitant before grabbing things like playdoh, bananas, ect. He will pat it first, then grab it- I think he is unsure of the texture, silly boy!
Owen likes to hide stuff under the couch, and reach up and stack stuff on the window sills, and arm of the couches.
Owen loves to take his diaper off ALL. THE. TIME. I think its just a boy phase.. cant wait for it to end!
Owen loves to eat bananas but only if they are in the peel (normally)
Owen loves to go shopping with me and sit in the cart and charm all the other customers. He is such a ladies man!!
He loves bubbles, all books, especially touch-and-feel books.
He is always clicking his tongue, first thing he does when he wakes up is a) smile, b) click his tongue, c) get out of bed.
Owen weighs 25ish pound! (holy moley he is a heavy guy!!) and is about 30+inches tall (last time I checked. See?! I wasnt lying about him being huge!)
I tell Owen about 5 min before Dave gets home that he is on his way, and Owen waits by the back door for him, and when he sees him pull up he gets CRAZY EXCITED, and super giggly!
Owen sleeps about 8 hours at night, and then will nap 1-2 hours during the day, I dont know how he has so much energy for so little sleep!?
When Owen wakes up from his one nap he has a very, very serious talk with me, I try not to laugh over the cuteness of it because he is always so serious with his tone, and facial expressions- this is only about a 5min talk then he is goofy.
Owen is such a sweetie!
"Enjoy the little things in life.. for one day you will look back and realize they were the big things"
There are so many more things I want to remember about my little monkey and things he is doing now that he is a 'big boy'.
I don't know where we would be without this kid! He is such a hoot! We love him soooooooo much, he has changed our lives 110%
"While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about."
- I could not have said it better myself. Owen has probably taught me a million more things than I am teaching him (I do my best, but he always has some hidden lesson ;) ). Things that were important to me 2 years ago mean nothing to me now, things that never meant anything to me before mean the world to me now!
Its almost your one year birthday little man, we love you so much!! Happy Birthday, Owen!
