Today was an awesome day, mostly. We went to church, and had some fabulous speakers. Then went down town to the ponds to feed the baby ducks, geese, and fish. Owen got to pet a baby duck, this was shortly after he got bite by a duck so he was slightly terrified that this tiny yellow baby would nip him, but it did not and he forgot all about his woes! Then I let him splash around in the fountain in front of the arts museum. Then we drove around the historical district, and then thought we would end the day by stopping at the wars monument. It is so gorgeous. They have a huge wall that wraps around part of the monument and it has a big timeline on it and on that time line it dates all the wars that we have been apart of, and how long they lasted, as well as how many American soldiers died in them. I was really disappointed that I had not heard of every single war. Did I just not pay good enough attention in History class? I don't know. But, I do know that I will giving myself a little course in history until I am a little more caught up on the history of our nation! There were a ton of roses and other flowers placed around the monument and it was so beautiful to see the respect that people give this place. Behind the monument there is a trail that goes back and then splits in two directions (one directions takes you to the skate park next to it, and the other takes you to the train station that is next to both of them), on the trail there are pictures of soldiers and stories of wars placed along the way. We had ventured to the end of the trail and decided to go towards the train station to look at the train cars. From there we could see the skate park, and dog park. Railroad tracks ran by, and we could see the monument. It was great. We were all standing and talking while Owen played in a sand pile, and we heard 5 or 6 loud bangs. They sounded like gun shots. I said Whoa, that sounded like a gun! Maybe somebody got shot! But at the same time we all kinda thought why would anyone be firing a gun down here? I looked over toward the skate park at that same time and I saw some kids running from it and I just watched them and said something about "oh we heard gun shots now there are people running". These kids were running straight for us. Screaming and trying to get our attention, they were screaming WE NEED A PHONE, WE NEED A PHONE!! Oh. My. Gosh. Someone literally got shot a hundred yards away. I said what happened?! and they said they were at the skate park next door and someone got mad and pulled a gun out and SHOT THEM. We let them use our phone and talked to them a little bit. They were shaking really bad, out of breath, and terrified! I had a million things running through my head, my biggest questions was do I run over there and help?! Not that I could do anything but I was pretty positive I was the only person with any kind of medical education, not to mention I did not actually SEE it so I was not shook up, like I am sure everyone else was. But, then I thought what if the shooter is still there I don't really want to put myself in danger. Fortunately as I am weighing my options, and listening to these kids talk a cop pulled up. Then 4 more cops. Then the ambulance and fire truck. Pheww. All of this was about 100 yards away (football field length). We watched the action for a few minutes and then decided to get the heck out of there.
What a way to end such a good day.
So, so sad to see how angry and revengeful some people are.
ANYWAY Here are some cute pictures to end the post ;) ...
